The Curious Case of the Bipolar Cakes (a.k.a. Happy Birthday Ben Cid)
My brother and I were born on the same date, but in different years.
Benedict Monteiro Cid was born on February 1, 1985,making him the first child and the only son of Venancio and Celeste Cid.
On his first birthday, while preparations were on their way for his party, his mother unexpectedly gave birth to the couple’s second child and first daughter, 2 weeks earlier than the expected date of February 15. It seemed like she didn’t want to miss the party.
Bernadette Monteiro Cid was born on February 1, 1986. She and her brother were born in the same hospital in Manila, and delivered by the same doctor.
And since then, the two always celebrated their birthdays together. There were always pink blue balloons, pink and blue candles and even a pink and blue cake. Half of the cake was pink, and half was blue. On one side, there’s Rainbow Brite, and on the other, there’s a Bioman. And there would also be one more blue candle than a pink candle.
This tradition stopped of course when the two hit puberty and had their own set of friends who gave them separate cakes as well. But on the morning of their birthday, they were together, receving hugs and kisses from their family members.
But my kuya is already in the States, so I really wouldn’t be able to share a birthday morning with him. Still, it should be a happy event for us. Kaya naman…
KUYA BEN, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! 24 KA NA! REGALO KO! YAHOO!
God Bless you Kuya.:) Have a grand time on our birthday.
